Descrizione: ESPANYA AL DIA [SPAIN TODAY], Laya Films newsreel produced during the Spanish Civil War made up of the following news reports: 1. ARCHITECTE SERT, DIRECTEUR TECHNIQUE DE LA SECTION CATALANE DE L’EXPOSITION DE PARIS, VISITE LE PRÉSIDENT LLUIS (sic) COMPANYS. Architect Josep Lluís Sert, as technical director of the Catalan section of the Paris Exposition, visits the president of the Government of Catalonia, Lluís Companys, and Propaganda Commissioner, Jaume Miravitlles, in the Pati dels Tarongers [Orange Tree Courtyard] of the Palau de la Generalitat government headquarters. They look over the plans for the pavilion. 2. PARFUMS D'ESPAGNE Images of the flower market in Valencia's Castelar square. We see flower stalls and customers. The images show a girl with a doll, a sailor buying flowers and a florist preparing bouquets of flowers. 3. BARCELONE. POUR UN NOUVEAU "KONSOMOL" (sic). Appeal to the public to raise money and build a new Komsomol, the Russian ship sunk by a Franco squadron. It shows images of a ship and young volunteers with collection boxes and fundraising tables. 4. BARCELONE. LA "JOURNÉE DE LA BONNE VOLONTÉ" In Montjuïc Park a children's fundraising event aimed at children in Madrid and the Basque Country. The children taking part perform Basque dances and are interviewed for Radio Barcelona. They carry large flags. Attended by Parliamentary representative, Jaume Serra Hunter and Jaume Miravitlles. Catalan flags are distributed among the children at the event. Images of the children smiling and the water fountain display. 5. CONTRE-ESPIONNAGE Report, featuring some fictional elements, on the forensics work being carried out by the Government of Catalonia police force in the fight against espionage. It summarises the entire process, providing details of the various steps: a police report and photo of fingerprints on a door, as well as the file identifying the person they belong to and, finally, the suspects being apprehended. 6. BARCELONA. NOUVEAU BOMBARDEMENT... NOUVELLES VICTIMES INNOCENTES! Report on the aftermath of bombing by seven fascist planes from a Majorcan airbase Images of buildings turned to rubble, debris clearing teams, injured civilians and a large funeral procession for the victims. 7. FRONT D'ARAGON. ATTAQUES DANS LE SECTEUR DE HUESCA Images showing the City of Huesca in the distance. Images of trenches with soldiers firing rifles and machine guns. Images of the artillery being used in the fighting and shelling damage. The infantry offensive, soldiers going over the parapet of the trenches and running down across a field with their bayonets. Attack moving towards a town. 8. MADRID. ASPECTS DES BOMBARDEMENTS A group of intellectuals taking part in the Congress of Antifascist Writers walk around Madrid visiting the sites damaged in the bombings and speaking to the soldiers. They visit the Ministerio de Fomento government building, Puerta de Toledo gate, Glorieta de Pirámides and the Plaza de Oriente square. We see the Casa de Campo front line. 9. LE PRÉSIDENT COMPANYS AVEC LES PAYSANS ARAGONAIS. Lluís Companys visits the Aragonese rural community arriving in a motorcade. Images of the president talking to farmers. Images of the crop and harvesting. Jaume Miravitlles and inspector general of the Catalonia and Aragon fronts, Ricard Sanz, are also present. 10. ARRIVÉE DU PRÉSIDENT D'EUZCADI (sic) EN CATALOGNE Official visit of Lehendakari, Jose Antonio Aguirre, to Catalonia in July 1937, during the Spanish Civil War. His plane lands at Reus airport, where he is welcomed by government ministers, Carles Pi i Sunyer and Antoni Mª Sbert, with soldiers shown in formation and on parade. They get into the waiting cars and head for Barcelona, led by a motorcycle escort. The motorcade passes through the Arc de Berà en route to Barcelona. Arriving in Barcelona's Plaça Sant Jaume, the president is officially received by Lluís Companys and honoured with a ceremonial presenting of arms by the Catalan Police Force.
